Razzmatazz
Razzmatazz, the fashion parade was the biggest crowd-puller of Carpe Diem 2012. The crowd was dominated by students from the 5 participating colleges, who turned up in large numbers and cheered for their team and the others alike.
The participants walked on the ramp with the assurance and style of professional models, attracting thunderous applause and cheers from the large crowd. The fashion show consisted of 2 rounds, with different themes for each round for each college.
In the end, Army Institute of Management were declared the winners, with the home team coming a close second, much to the delight of the crowd.
The judges for the event were Richa Sharma, Mrs. India 2011-12 winner, RJ Sammy, and DJ Ravi.
Sports at Carpe
An eventful day unfolded in sports with the day seeing an enthusiastic participation from both IIMC students and visiting students. FutSal, the street version of football was every bit exciting and thrilling as its field version. It saw some very closely fought matches, with our very own IIMC team thwacking their opponents by a score line of 9-0. Some of the footballers saw themselves being ‘Putlaked*’ too.
One of the shortest versions of cricket, the beloved Gully Cricket also attracted large participation. The unique format of subtracting runs for losing a wicket created many a fun score card, with one particular team’s score reading -9 runs. “This format is really exciting” said a visibly excited participant.”The concept of negative runs and co operation required in teams is pretty fun”.
Treasure Hunt
The event “Guptodhaner Khoje- The hunt for Joka’s treasure” had 2 rounds.18 teams participated with a maximum of 3 members each. The first round was about cracking a puzzle and identifying an object – which then had to be photographed. For eg, one of the puzzles were:
“I have hands that wave at you, Though I never say goodbye. It’s cool for you to be with me, Especially when I say, “HI.” What am I?” Ans: Fan.
A few late risers in the hostel were woken up by the unfamiliar and pleasant voice of a lot of girls. One lady, instead of picking up the clue for items picked up a question paper of risk management. “If she hadnt been stopped”, joked one of the guys,” she’d have spent the rest of her life solving it”.
In the end an IIMC team “Team Aiyoooo” won the game. Everyone had fun and even the people who lost said that this was something they will never forget!!
Indian Ocean
For the aficionados of the indie-fusion brand of music, it was pure bliss.
The others were introduced to high adrenalin, home grown notes backed by powerful lyrics that bordered on the philosophical. In all, the foursome won hearts, and allowed the crowd to savor the goodness of their music. In all, It was a fitting end to Carpe Diem 2012, the memories of which will stay with the IIMC junta for years to come. Oh wait, each Carpe is the best only till the next one!! See you all next year!!
*PutLake(v) : (You must be dumb to miss the meaning!!)The act of being put into one of the 7 lakes at IIM Calcutta. Like the lakes, something quite unique to our campus.
