For the 50 odd junta in L1 on Saturday evening, it was time to delve into the mysteries of the universe in general and the human mind in particular. Which they did with great enthusiasm, helped along by an equally energetic man, who enthralled and educated in equal measure.

The general awareness talk organized by Colloquia on hypnosis by Dr. Yuvraj Kapadia, internationally renowned hypnotherapist  and head of California Hypnosis Institute of India, was a smashing hit, with all the students holding on to their seats to listen to every word he said. The lecture, initially planned for one hour, extended to two because the students were highly reluctant to see the session end. Dr.Kapadia finally had to decide to leave and disappoint the students clamoring for him to go on (which is something the reporter is witnessing for the first time on campus).

“We’re delighted with how the event turned out. Dr. Kapadia said he enjoyed himself immensely, with the students being so enthusiastic an audience. He said that the informal setting enabled him to branch out and talk about a wide range of topics, and that he would have liked to spend more time with them, satisfying their curiosity,” said Mayank Sharma, a PGP1 member of Colloquia from the organizing team.

“It was absolutely fabulous!”, said Deepti, another PGP1 from Colloquia, “Apart from the students giving such positive feedbacks, making the first Colloquia event of the year so memorable, the lecture itself was brilliant!” She said that she was happy to have gotten a chance to listen to Dr. Kapadia speak. “It was a big eye-opener for all of us; that there are so many things in the world and within our very minds, which we shelve away as mysteries, that could be explained with rationality, if only we cared to look and listen.”

Dr. Kapadia started out with explaining how the mind functioned and went on to talking about metaphysics, telepathy, past-lives and experiences, and the inherent power resident in the human mind. He gave examples of miraculous healings brought about by hypnotherapy and explained how it could be replicated in other cases. He also suggested various techniques that the students could use to minimize their requirement for sleep, perform better in exams, and become more creative.

The enthusiasm in the room was electric, with students shooting questions incessantly. At any point of time, there were a number of hands up in the air and Dr. Kapadia could barely finish answering one before the other was asked. Finally, after the session ended, a lot of students were seen asking for and noting down the contacts of the speaker and the institute he worked with.

The impact the lecture had on the students was obvious when the reporter actually heard a PGP1 asking, “Can people come and work with you for short periods? I’d be free for a couple of months during the summer… ”
